Swimming Scholarships
NCAA Divisions 1 and 2, swimming scholarships are part of the category the NCAA calls the equivalency sport. The total allotment of scholarships may be divided in a number of ways among those on the swimming team as long as the total number of awards doesn’t go beyond the NCAA’s scholarship limit. NAIA swimming scholarships may also be divided in this way among team members.
In NCAA Division 1 and Division 2 and NAIA, women’s swimming scholarships fall into the equivalency type category. Each team in D1 is allotted the equivalent of 14 full scholarships for women’s swimming. Coaches can divide scholarship awards in any manner. For D2 a total of 8.1 scholarships can be awarded. At NAIA level 8 scholarships are on offer. At JUCO level 15 scholarships are on offer. Between D1, D2, NAIA and JUCO there are 385 swimming programs.
In men's swimming, at the D1 level, there are a total number of 143 teams and they are allowed to offer a max. of 9.9 scholarships. At the D2 level there are 58 Swimming teams and a max. of 8.1 scholarships on offer per team. There are 22 NAIA programs with a total of 8 scholarships on offer per team. JUCO level have 67 teams with a total of 15 scholarships on offer per team.
